No happy birthday for Teno

Loro Parque, orca, marine connection, teno, morgan

31 March marks the first birthday of Teno, a young male orca whose life has already been shaped by captivity. Born at Loro Parque in Tenerife, he is the son of Morgan, an orca taken from the wild in the Wadden Sea off the Dutch coast in 2010.

Teno’s first year serves as a poignant reminder of what captive-born orcas are denied. Unlike their wild counterparts, he will never have the chance to hunt, to travel vast ocean distances, or to live within the rich and complex social structures that define his species. His world is confined to a man-made environment, far removed from the natural life he was born to experience.

We believe this should be the last generation of orcas and all cetaceans, held in captivity for public entertainment. We ask the public not to purchase tickets to these shows, as by doing so, you can help bring an end to this cycle and support a future where these remarkable animals are no longer bred for life in confinement.
