A successful campaign in Poland has led to an important development in the movement against cetacean captivity in tourism.

According to DFE member Jakub Banasiak from NIE! E LA DELFINARIUM, Polish tour operators have been the focus of extensive outreach efforts calling for an end to the promotion of dolphinaria and marine park attractions. These efforts have now achieved a breakthrough, with EXIM Tours confirming that it will no longer offer or promote such excursions to its customers.

EXIM Tours, currently the sixth-largest travel agency in Poland, has publicly reaffirmed its support for sustainable tourism. In its official announcement, the company stated that animal welfare is of “utmost importance” and that it aims to ensure its travel programmes are consistent with responsible tourism and respect for wildlife and the environment. The company also acknowledged the value of campaigns that help increase public understanding of animal welfare issues and promote informed consumer choices.

We commend our colleagues in Poland for their dedication and persistence in addressing the role of the tourism industry in promoting cetacean captivity. We also applaud EXIM Tours for taking this positive and responsible step, and we hope many more travel providers will choose to follow this example.
