Centre for Dolphin Research: Science or a Glorified Dolphinarium?

The French government is supporting the establishment of a proposed Centre for Dolphin Research, Scientific Study, and Rescue at ZooParc de Beauval. But behind the scientific language lies a troubling reality – a new dolphinarium in disguise. Plans indicate that 11 dolphins currently held at Planète Sauvage will be transferred there once the facility is complete. Even more concerning, the 12 dolphins at Marineland Antibes, whose future remains uncertain, may follow. Reports also suggest potential breeding programs and transfers to China – practices that run counter to modern animal welfare standards and conservation ethics.

“Any relocation must be to a true sanctuary – one that prohibits breeding, public shows, close interactions, and trade in cetaceans. Anything less is just an upgraded dolphinarium.” Margaux Dodds, Chair, Dolphinaria-Free Europe

Member organization One Voice is calling for public support to stop this project. They are urging people to sign the petition demanding that dolphins be relocated only to genuine sanctuaries — places focused on rehabilitation, not exploitation.
