Amazing sand sculpture created to raise public awareness about the plight of Morgan the orca

Less than 500 meters away from Loro Parque in Tenerife, Canary Islands, this amazing sand sculpture of a killer whale by Sasha Abdo, Hans Peter Roth and two local sand sculptors was created recently, to raise public awareness about the plight of Morgan the orca who is currently held in captivity at the facility on Tenerife. The sculpture took approximately nine hours to complete and received much attention from passers-by, many of whom were unaware of Morgan’s story.

Barcelona – first city in Europe to declare itself officially free of cetaceans in captivity.

The City Council will no longer allow new facilities to be built or additional cetaceans to be imported for public display. With regards to the dolphins currently held at Barcelona zoo, it is hoped the marine mammals will be relocated to a sanctuary as soon as possible.
